Part 2 - Current problems of tourism entertainment
After the description of the situation in the tourism sector and the beginnings of tourism entertainment in the first part, this second part will focus on the different aspects that represent current issues for a professional realization of the tourist entertainment service. These problems demonstrate the serious need to change the unknown and false image of this socio-cultural phenomenon for a more balanced tourism.
Among the most significant problems we can name the following:
• Although training institutions are coming out with specific courses for tourist entertainment, there is no doubt that there is a great lack of teams of trainers for tourist entertainers and more sophisticated training programs, offering a formation and preparation that correspond to the exigencies of this profession.
• The employment of foreign entertainers (for lack of language skills of potential candidates of their own country) often with a low or almost zero level of professional training and unfamiliarity with the culture of the country where they work, are another weak point for the proper conduct of this service, resulting in very low continuity.
• The global trends also influence the tourist entertainment. To satisfy international tourists, in many cases the activities (eg, Casino Night, Horror Night, Broadway Shows etc.) show clearly the loss of cultural values of each region. Consequently in many cases the tourist entertainment activities are repetitive and give the impression of being limited as realized in many hotels in the world. It is not meant to criticize this situation, but rather to point out that cultural activities with regional contents offer a great opportunity to enrich and supplement programs for a unique experience for tourists and differentiate their program. Unfortunately this is not taken sufficiently into consideration.
To achieve that tourist entertainment is considered a profession that helps improve customer service and product improvement, the creation of highly specialized training courses that prepare future entertainers is imperative to properly face the requirements of the profession.
On the other hand the awareness and involvement by the hotel is equally important. In most cases the hotel directions remain outside the animation project development, devaluing its importance to the proper operation of the hotel. They even mistakenly think that entertainment is a complementary service for tourists.
Good communication between management, the various departments of the hotel and the animation team is the key to an extraordinary result. Only a healthy interaction and willingness to collaborate will give success on medium and long term.
In the third and last part about tourist entertainment will speak about the responsibilities and skills needed to work as a professional entertainer.
